A certain number of early copies were signed by Shohei on the inside that are now selling for $2k+ on eBay. I did not get one those.

I’m very fortunate to have one. Shipped and ordered from a shop in LA when they came out. 24.99 or something total. Pretty absurd, but I’m so grateful to have it in my collection as an otherwise poor compulsive spender. lol

I’m a children’s book author and I think they did a great job with this. A lot of celebrity kids books don’t credit the writer and you’re lucky if the illustrator gets credited inside the book. Sometimes they don’t get any at all. Having both their names on the cover is great. It’s the right thing to do.
Also so many kids books have very pedestrian styles and the book itself is boring and has little to offer. Everyone has that one member of their family who “has an idea for a kids book”, thinking they’re easy because there aren’t many words. When you make these things you have to really spend a huge amount of time with every word and illustration.
Then to top it off the sales go to charity. It is impossible to hate this man.
(僕は児童書の作家なんだけど、これは素晴らしい仕事だと思う。多くのセレブの子供向け本はライターをクレジットしないし、イラストレーターがクレジットされていればラッキーというレベルだ。時には全くクレジットされないこともある。カバーに両方の名前が載っているのは素晴らしい。そうあるべきだ。
それに、多くの子供向け本は平凡なスタイルで、内容も退屈で得るものが少ない。誰の家族にも「子供向け本のアイデアがある」なんて言う人がいるものさ。言葉が少ないから簡単だと思っているんだ。でも、実際に作るとなると、すべての言葉とイラストに膨大な時間を費やさなければならない。
さらに追い打ちをかけるように、売り上げはチャリティに寄付される。この男を嫌うなんて不可能だよ。)
