I’d say it’s already guaranteed at this rate. He’s struggling at this very moment but even if he doesn’t get red hot, he’s on track for 20’ish home runs and a .250 BA avg, with a decent OPS. AS A PITCHER.

As much as I love the big guy, if he’s in the picture, he will get the CY. MLB ram him down everyone’s throat (and for good reason) and him being the most complete baseball player of all time (even though he already is) is too good an opportunity to pass up marketing wise for them.

No disrespect to Will but got to let Ohtani decide all pitches that he wants to throw.
This should be a permanent decision as I saw Ohtani say no to Will multiple (many) times through out the game. I feel like Will is great at doing great things but just not with Ohtani. Maybe even let the other pitchers make the final decision.

Not really sure on this one. I’m sure Ohtani gets/reads the scouting reports but having the catcher be in charge of the overall gameplan probably lightens his workload significantly. Letting Ohtani override him in the moment is probably good enough.

I’m going to go with the idea of what Shohei “feels” like pitching or what he feel he’s going to execute better than what might be a better pitch on paper/strategic from Will’s perspective but execute it with less accuracy because his body isn’t feeling and that’s why him nodding his head a lot was prob cause Will was trying to give him the options but thinking it’s also because it look liked they didn’t use a pitch com but not really sure.

Agreed. He started calling his own pitches some with Angels, although he did have success, he fell in love a bit too much with the sweeper which got him in trouble at times lol.

Eh i disagree. Catchers control the state of the game and work in tandem with the pitcher. They have a good pov on how the pitches are looking and batter tends. As long as they have good teamwork, communication, ohtani and Smith are a good battery
