No, it wasn’t. Not even close. That round at 2nd base was completely unnecessary and obviously fishing for a call. Didn’t turn out to impact the outcome anyways, but it was BS.

I didn’t get to watch the game yesterday so I only saw highlights with like one angle. The double play overturned seems the worse. I’ve seen more obvious plays where the the fielder misses the ball to turn two. The first one I believe was rizzo and ever after that called him a genius. The round at 2nd base was closer, I wish they showed more angles.

The only thing that makes sense to me is they called it intentional and then it became a dead ball, so runner on 1st became safe. The same as if it were an infield fly? This is the only thing I’ve read that at least explains why it wasn’t a double play- even if it doesn’t make sense

“If runners are on base but the Infield Fly rule doesn’t apply (e.g., only a runner on first base), and an infielder intentionally catches and then drops the ball, it is an automatic out for the batter, the ball instantly becomes dead, and runners must return to their bases.”

Not an actual infield fly rule since it was a line out, but the concept of not having to advance applies I guess since they’re saying it was an intentional drop? Not sure what you mean by interference, I was just confused all around last night (and still am.)
