I am not going to trash him. But I will say last year I got torn a new one suggesting that I felt our players should have sat out the WBC and let themselves rest, work out, practice and get healthy. I know its fun to play for your home country but the dodgers are your job and they pay these players very well to stay healthy, limit injuries and down time. And letting your body rejuvenate in the off season is part of that.
Ohtani, Diaz, and Smith all played in the wbc. And frankly both pitchers and catchers put a ton of stress on their bodies that needs a chance to heal. And now look ohtani, diaz, and smith have been chasing injuries all season.

I’m mad that he can’t sit himself out and let someone else DH that can give 100. Sho at 50% is still amazing but he is really off. They won plenty this season without him and could use his help if they reach the WS and him resting while they make it would be a huge help to the team but also to himself.

At this point he should probably step away from pitching for good. There’s nothing left to prove there and his bat is too valuable to risk as an aging two-way player. His starts earlier in the year probably did a number on his body.
But whatever it is, I hope he’s not doing long term damage. I’d rather have him sit out right now than risk his long term success.

They’re allowed to criticize him. I don’t think Ohtani is going to get his feelings hurt. My point is that when an athlete does something directly related to the sport they’re paid to play and want attention for, people are allowed to have opinions about their performance.
Fans spend their time and money supporting these teams, so they’re allowed to be critical of the players and the organization. That comes with being a professional athlete and playing in front of an audience.

I agree I find myself even fighting the whole family of dodger fans who are already burning ship. Like clearly he’s hurt don’t start acting like he’s not, he’s coming back regardless to try help for the 3-peat. Been seeing so many wanting him gone cause he’s not cranking balls like he was before he got hurt. You new to this sport? The whole lineup deserves criticism for not having quality ABs. Watch every other team left in the playoffs. They work the count, get on base by any means, get pitchers in a jam, run up pitch counts, etc. Dodgers aren’t doing any of that. Forget wins and losses. It’s just ugly dumb baseball.
The Shohei thing just comes with the territory. If you’re the star, you get the glory and the blame. Plus he’s chasing pitches a foot off the plate which has nothing to do with injury.

We were at the game yesterday field level behind home plate. There were 4 dudes behind us talking all game about how they get their stays at Circus Circus comped and how excited they were to not have to pay their resort fees. Just some really unintelligent conversations happening the whole game. Then one proceeded to make a comment about how Ohtani blew the whole game cause he only had a single in the game. There’s just so many fans that don’t know wtf they’re talking about just talking shit just to talk.
Also, the amount of fans that left in the 7th, 8th and going into the 9th inning was surprising. It was 7:45PM and we were down by 2 runs.

I would never trash Ohtani but it was clear to me at the beginning of the year that he’s just not as good of a hitter when he’s pitching. Going from 50/50 to what he is now is such a stark difference that it makes you wonder if pitching and destroying his arm is even worth it. Yeah he’s a stud pitcher, at the cost of being a fraction of his best self as a hitter. Still love him! Just hope he stops pitching soon for his own sake.

You can go from being a franchise icon who made some of the biggest hits in team history to fans wanting to move on from you or trade you the minute your performance declines. Not saying this about Ohtani but just in general.
As for Ohtani. He’s gotten a few hits this series. But I guarantee you it’s going to come out once the season ends that he’s been much more injured than they’ve been letting onto this season. It’s not an excuse if they lose, it’s not a bragging point if they win. I’m sure guys on other teams are playing hurt right now too. It’s the nature of October.
Your average MLB player would be benched and wouldn’t be playing if injured. Othani is held in such high regard that an injured Ohtani is still seen as a formidable threat to where 29 other teams would quickly continue to trot him out under these same circumstances. If they felt the injury was something serious or something which could carry over beyond this season, I think they would’ve sat him by now as they have him under contract for 7 more seasons and you gotta protect your investment. Whatever he’s dealing with is impacting his production, but it’s stuff you can play through, but at the end of the day he has to step it up. But even with the injury impacting his performance, his opponents have respected his bat.

He was so unfathomably good it was like he was a god come down to earth. People idealized him and projected all kinds of shit onto him. The comedown on that type of inflatedness is very hard on both sides. You hit the ground with a slam. Now he’s just out there a man like every other player and (some) people hate seeing that and would rather trash him than face the fact that we’re all just mortals.
