ああ、大筋で同意だよ。唯一反論したいのは、大谷の調子が明らかに悪かった時（今よりさらに酷かった時）に、球団が「1番を打ちながら修正していけばいい」と表向き発表していたことに対する俺たち全員のフラストレーションくらいだ。公平に言えば、大谷がスタッフに何を伝えていたのか、ドックやフリードマンが大谷に何を求めていたのかは分からないから、今回の決断の功績は翔平だけでなく球団首脳陣全員に与えられるべきだね
Yeah I mostly agree - the only pushback I’d offer is the frustration we all felt when Ohtani was clearly not right (even worse than he is now) and the outward facing message from the org was that he just needed to work through it while batting leadoff. To be fair, we don’t know what he was telling the staff or what Doc and Friedman were asking of him, so credit for this move now should really go to all of the above, not just Shohei.

This is good. I don’t think Shohei’s issues are injury related, I think he’s just pressing. He’s been chasing a lot and not taking what the pitcher gives him, which isn’t his style. I guess it’s injury related in the sense that he missed some time and he’s urgent to contribute, but they have to get him commanding the strike zone again. Put some hitters in front of him that can get on, and some behind him, and hope that creates opportunities for him to get strikes that he can do something with. It won’t take a lot.

From what I have seen and heard recently on a youtube video essay about Shohei’s recent struggles, he picked up some bad habits when he was battling injuries in August, so even though he’s “healthy”, his approach at the plate hasn’t improved much. Hopefully this helps reset him

This seems most plausible to me. Little compensatory quirks, maybe understating (or under estimating) extent of an injury and playing around it. I’m sure he is aware of the issue at a deeper level than anyone but it’s still a process to get right.

I am not sure about that. He has been swinging and missing first pitch strike that’s right down the middle. He has always been an early count mistake killer, but he is missing meatballs that’s right down the middle. The chase issue is only stopping him from getting walks in deep count, which he was also very good at, but the main issue is still the inability to punish mistake pitches early in the count.

This is a good move, probably still too high honestly, guess they want to see if he can draw some walks if the Braves still respect his presence, it is like a 3D printed Ferrari. Honestly the last couple games he was 2 for 8 but looked over-matched. Swinging and missing on 95 mph fastball right down the middle on strike 1 was the nail for me, that’s something he used to crush, or at least a loud foul, and now he couldn’t even make contact. It seems like anything with velocity he is struggling with and anything soft he is fooled. The opposite field hit in game 2, that would have been a left center HR if he was healthy, but he was so late on it he batted a ground ball instead. I wonder what exactly is the injury that’s bothering him so much, this is someone who batted as DH for the rest of the season after needing Tommy John without any issue.
