Without really adding a 4th pitch, Roki still ‘added’ it now just with a simple tweak:
- 4-seamer
- Slider
- Dragon Forkball (low rpm)
- Splitter (very high rpm)
Making batters guess between the 2 variations of forkball got Roki a ton of 1st pitch strikes as long as it hits the zone, and getting ahead on the count worked wonders for Roki’s other pitches. Continue that trend Roki. We see you working hard

It’s generally a forkball in every aspect, but Pitching Ninja called it a dragon forkball because Roki throws his forkball in such a way that in a lot of cases, it moves like a faster Knuckleball in the tailing action. It’s like a dragon weaving towards the catcher, and this pitch is 100% unique to Roki.It’s different from Kodai Senga’s ghost forkball, which in all technicalities is gripped like a splitter, but doesn’t act like a splitter when it’s released.

Adding on to the other commenter, the dragon forkball is a nickname for Roki’s original splitter that he was using all of last year. The new splitter that he has started using is more resembling the splitter Roki used in Japan, which is faster, doesnt break as much and is easier for Roki to locate.

I’m glad Roki smoked the Angels and it was fun to watch him at the game today. I hope it helps him build some confidence, but I also hope he keeps it in perspective so that he doesn’t have a harsh comedown if he doesn’t achieve similar results against a more potent offense. I think a confident, but level headed approach that limits the highs and lows would go a long way towards helping insulate him a bit as he navigates his development as a starter.
Bottom line, he had a really solid outing and I hope he can keep building upon it to really get to the next level in his game. I think getting some positive reinforcement on the field for all the work he’s putting in could prove very important going forward.

Yeah, if a strike 3 hits the dirt, the runner can try and run to first before the catcher can tag the runner or get the force out at first.If the runner gets to first, it’s scored as a strikeout and a wild pitch

Yeah its a wonky little dropped 3rd strike rule, where for some reason if the catcher does not catch a pitch on a swung strikeout, the batter can run to 1st base and beat it out. Thats how youd get some Mason Miller 4 strikeout innings.
