I’m not saying it’s a trend or anything.But if he does continue to have up and down games, I think it’s worth a discussion to consider whether taking an occasional game off as a hitter (like that Mets game) might be worth it - especially if it gets Rushing more ABs.

And given his age, workload, and pitching full time for the first time in years, maybe the occasional game off as DH (when he pitches and even then maybe every other start at most) to let a guy like Rushing see more playing time might be nice, no? Ohtani deserved better? We, the fans watching, deserved better. If we’re dedicating our time to watch this team play, I won’t complain if they lose as that’s sports, but just look like you’re competing. Many of those at bats looked awful.
