He normally does that he locks in. I’ve seen it enough times. I mean that very well could have been 5 runs but he didn’t let it go you could tell by his throw to first he was rattled a bit but then he locked in. I like his mental toughness. I feel he’s getting closer to locking in. One bad inning every game and it could have been 1 run instead of 3 if not for his own error, and Mookie almost came up with the catch.I feel like the most encouraging sign was he got better as the game got into 4th 5th inning. His 5th was dominant stuff, two strikeouts and a weak ground ball on that 99 mph fastball at the knees.
He’s dotting that FB on the knees now and that’s going to help him so much. Pretty sure he’s working on it to dot it in that area

Yama is strictly first inning it seems Roki is mostly third+ but that was more to him only having the fork and fastball now that he has a slider, and the splitter I think he will get better what may have attributed to this first inning troubles is he had one less day off he pitched Sunday then pitched today.Yama is a G that can go four day rest five or six but I think Sasaki may have had trouble at first cause he’s not used to it.

But people don’t like to see that they just see oh he’s bad. 3 runs one unearned and that was all he gave up and got stronger as the game went on is positive.

One subtle thing I saw tonight is that he started to mix in some quick pitches when no one on base, basically pitching from stretch without the high leg kick. That’s the first time I have seen it, basically trying to mess up the timing of the hitters. I like that he is doing every little thing to improve.

His fastball in the 5th inning was the best I have seen him throw. Overall tonight his fastball generated 29% whiff, with 17 IVB, and 10 inches of arm side run (both above league average). If he can sit at 98 like he did in the 5th and with that shape and his elite extension, he is going to be unhittable with the offspeed stuff he has. You can see that he was throwing harder in the 5th with command, and the result was great. he must felt really good about his mechanics and start letting it just rip.
