As much as I know a few fans hate them, the Jomboy crowd (which Rose is a part of) have more or less universally (there might be an exception as they have a big crew) said they think the Dodgers are great for baseball and what we’re doing is the right way to do things. Jake has talked about how his only complaint is that the Yankees should be doing the same thing. Plouffe seems like a closet Dodgers fan half the time.

Its really the difference between fans that actually follow baseball (Jomboy and their crew) and the crybabies in r/baseball. The latter is constantly whining about how we buy our talent yet they conveniently forget that we built a purely homegrown team and made it to the World Series in 2017, 2018, and 2020. All the superstars we traded for or signed via free agency were because the original teams were too cheap to pay their homegrown talent. If you’re Boston or Atlanta how do you let go of the face of your franchise? And both those organizations were coming off recent WS wins.

Yeah this has been great at explaining the divide between the ball knowers and the more casual fans. People that know ball are mad at their owners. More casual fans are mad at the Dodgers. Heck just the Skubal trade is a great litmus test. If they think Detroit got fleeced they do not understand the value of rentals and prospects. Which isn’t even that ‘in the weeds’ as far as ball knowledge goes.

It really is a difference in being an avid fan and a casual, which is fine, be a casual fan. But if you’re a casual fan don’t try and act like you understand the business of Major League Baseball. If you don’t know about collusion, antitrust protection, PEDs being swept under the rug, Marvin Miller, and things of this nature, don’t try to understand the relationship between players and owners. It’s far too messy ground to casually stroll through. I’m in a two day argument with someone who has the mindset that the Brewers can’t trade for someone like Skubal because they can’t replace prospects as easily as the Dodgers because of money. Of course ignoring the fact that the Brewers have the top farm system, the best winning percentage, have top tier scouting and development, and routinely draft, sign, and trade well, such as in the case of Miz, Choirio, and Contreras. If the Brewers can’t match a deal or don’t think they can replace a top 25 prospect, a 28 year old pitcher coming back from Tommy John and a pitcher in A-Ball for a legit chance at a World Series, then okay, that’s on them. It has nothing to do with money.

There is still far less than a 50% chance for the Dodgers to win this season, and the front office knows it. They need to give themselves the best odds while Ohtani is still around and near his prime. With all their talent, they had to overcome some very dangerous situations in the playoffs both in 2024 and 2025. They likely will again this year. There are lots of concerns for this team— even if other teams have far more. The big free agents Tucker and Diaz so far have not contributed much, Mookie and Teo looks like they are aging rather than bouncing back, Smith has been injured, as have been Snell, Glasnow and Ohtani (though he still hits) and who knows where these guys will be in October. Injuries are an issue, especially for an older team. I would like a boring October playoff run with a title at the end, but it’s likely gonna have more drama still. Also, have people seen the deadline activities? All these teams, from Yankees to the Brewers, even the Twins, did not act like they are giving up pursuing a title as they acquired help for this year.

Exactly. Look at the Red Sox this year, they were on pace to have one of their worst seasons in franchise history but they caught fire. What does their ownership do? They trade their farm for Adley Rutschman who has 1.5 years of control left, because when healthy and in form, he increases their odds of making the WS. You can hoard prospects all you want, but history has shown us that the teams that make deep runs in the post season know when to cash in those prospects for MLB level talent that can push you over the edge.
