I mean yes, it’s the playoffs. Anything can happen. We aren’t invincible.

Yeah, but they’ve gotta write the articles regardless. It’s playoff baseball. Shit is gonna get weird.

Casual fans go “What’s the point of watching the playoffs The Dodgers are just gonna win.” This article is for them.

If you’re a casual fan then you’re not really following the season. And then you decide to skip the playoffs, are you really a fan or just someone who reads/watches the news.

This exactly. It is the playoffs and anything can happen. The blue jays were one ground rule double away from a game six and series win. The 2001 Mariners had 116 wins in the regular season and lost 4-1 in the ALCS. One of my fav moments was Blake Snell getting pulled in 2020 after dominating the Dodgers lineup for five innings versus 2025 seven innings against the Phillies. And the difference maker? Doc.

I mean, anyone who has watched the team for the last 4 months knows they’re vulnerable in certain spots. I’ve watched better teams lose quickly in the DS, and worse teams make a World Series run. It’s just about who performs well for 2 or 3 weeks. I won’t be surprised either way

The 2006 Cardinals went 25-32 from August 1 to October 1, limping their way to the finish line at 83-79, but still finishing on top of the NL Central. They mowed down the competition in just 16 games to win it all, needing to go the distance only in the NLCS against the Mets. So yeah, anything is possible.

In terms of on-paper I think you could argue the late 90’s/00’s Yankees were right there, and after 2000 they didn’t win another World Series until 2009. They lost in the DS round 4 times in that span, lost 2 World Series and a CS, and missed playoffs altogether in 08. Baseball has so much randomness that the margins between any two contending Major League teams are pretty small despite one team having more stars on paper

Being better, or more talented, is only one part of the equation. October baseball is about who gets hot at the right time. This is one of the hardest things for newer baseball fans, especially those coming from football or basketball, to grasp: hardware is less of a barometer of how good a team actually is in baseball than in almost any other sport because there are so many random variables at play. But through the course of a 162-game season, those random variables level out. Put another way, the regular season is a much better measure of how “good” a baseball team actually is than the postseason, because the larger sample size reduces the role of randomness, even though winning the World Series is ultimately every team’s goal.

The names on a piece of paper also don’t reflect how healthy guys are at a given time either.

Every team has issues. Every team as it’s upsides. The World Series champion will be decided by who can play clutch baseball when the pressure is on, when you’re banged up and bruised and when shit needs to happen. That’s when Miggy hits a game seven homer. That’s when Kike comes to life. That’s when Yama pitches back to back games. That’s when Will Smith catches every game of the post season. When things get tough the tough get going. Dodgers “should not” have won that last World Series, but we did. It was skill and luck and a bunch of bad ass dudes digging deep. Do we have flaws? Majorly. But it’s not about that. It’s about competing against whoever is in front of us, and making things happen. That’s what I love about this dodgers team.

Our pitching will hold the line, but if our offense goes cold and our bullpen does their bullpen things, we are in for a rough series against any team.

Personally I’ve never thought we are going to be granted another WS title. I think any number of teams could eliminate us, really not confident against anyone. A lot of this has to do with regular season performance - we’ve lost most series against the top playoff teams. In the end though, there is so much variability that anything could happen. Look at last years WS, there were so many
