obviously it’s for the best but a part of me can’t help but feel bad :( he clearly loves pitching and it must be so frustrating having to give that up cause your body just can’t keep up with doing both things. going from potential cy young winner to not even be able to pitch in the same season has to be very demoralizing, doesn’t matter if you’re the best player ever.

抑え登板はDHを解除することになるからリスクが高いよ。もしセーブに失敗したら、そのまま投げ続けるか、打線に残るために外野に回るか、あるいは完全にベンチに退いて以降は投手が打席に立つ（代打を出す）しかない。乗り切れない状況ではないけど、よほどの緊急事態でもない限り絶対に避けたい場面だ。それに定期的に実戦投球をしていないなら、うまくいく可能性も低いだろうし。
Closing is risky since it loses the DH. If he happens to blow a save, he has to either be left out to keep pitching, has to be shifted into the outfield to stay in the lineup, or else he has to be pulled completely and pitchers bat for the rest of the game (or get pinch hit for). Not a situation that couldn’t be overcome, but one that they’ll definitely want to avoid unless it’s really, really necessary. And if he’s not getting regular throws in, it’s not likely to pay off.

Yeah I understand the risk of the rule. I’m just being romantic about baseball. Good news is as a 2 way roster spot means he’s a bonus pitcher if at all. My scenario would be an emergency situation but I still have it higher than Kiké catching and Yoshi on 0 rest would probably be more effective unless he pulls another legendary status where he’s “unavailable to pitch” I just want another legendary Shohei moment that no one could imagine possible. He’s practically done it all, why not earn a save in the World Series too?

Im just glad that Shohei got in his moment, his postseason game, a true Shohei Ohtani game in every way in Game 4 of the NLCS last season. I was also very glad the Dodgers won the World Series last season and it may be the most important World Series title for Shohei, proving that the two way concept is real and will be able to win you titles given that the team has that guy that can do it.

Dude hasn’t played in long postseason runs his entire career until going back to back with the Dodgers. His body doesn’t seem to be able to handle the load of pitching and hitting at elite levels over extended periods of time with less rest in between. Being older also doesn’t help.

I think having him start pitching after the all star break makes the most sense for rest of his pitching days. Then he should have enough gas for the postseason and still be able to compete.

If I was running the show I’d probably use him exclusively as a hitter until June or July & aim for about 10-15 starts a year before the post season.
