It’s so weird, because on r/baseball, you see so many people hating on Muncy and I never understood it. The dude seems so humble and has evolved into a leader on the team. Really seems like he’s taken on the elder statesman role, much like Justin Turner in the past. Would love to see those two dudes in coaching/front office roles after they retire. (Along with Miggy Ro, of course.)

In game 5 NLCS against the Mets, Brent Honeywell had one job. And that was to eat innings. After he came out after almost 5 innings, Muncy went up to him and told him “You’ve won us game 6.” And I remember Muncy coming up behind Honeywell during the World Series celebration in the locker room telling the interviewer the same thing. Muncy loves being a Dodger. And does what he can to buck up his teammates.

Yeah. Muncy especially has a ton of empathy for other players. He recently did that almost-hour long interview on the Mental Game podcast talking about his mental health struggles early in his career where he almost quit baseball for good. He was thankful to the Dodgers for giving him a second chance (after the Athletics had let him go) allowing him to find joy again in baseball. I had no idea he had gone through such tough times and he also said had nothing to do with the Athletics, but that he just was not in a good spot mentally and emotionally at the time. Because of that, I think that’s why Muncy really looks out for the other players on Dodgers and can really relate and be understanding to them when they struggle, especially with the mental side of the game.

Without having seen your comment, I echoed the exact same thoughts. He’s definitely got the JT command and everyone seems to think incredibly highly of him. It seems meaningful that Mookie chose Muncy to be the guy to address it with him. You’ve got to imagine Muncy has the clubhouse dad role on lock.
